St George Football Association (SGFA) is excited to confirm that it has been successful in obtaining a Football NSW Girls SAP licence for the 2020 season.

The SGFA program is to be delivered on a part-time basis to allow local players to continue to be part of their local Clubs, whilst offering those aspiring players the opportunity to further grow and develop within a representative program structure.

SGFA relinquished its female licence 2 years ago to strategically focus on growing our female football numbers at grassroots with our local Clubs prior to revisiting the representative pathway again.

Since then our local numbers have grown by 15% (25% since 2015), we have established a female sub-committee made up of all female representatives from our local grassroots clubs and delivered a number of targeted females only events / activities that have assisted in the promotion of female football in our region.

SGFA CEO, Craig Kiely, is looking forward to once again offering a representative pathway for girls in the region via the Association.

“We decided 2 years ago to step away from Girls SAP for a period of time to re-focus on growing our grassroots competitions and participation levels” Kiely stated.

Our intention was always to return, with the right model at the right time and we look forward to working with our local Clubs to make this a great success.”

“We will ensure that our teams will play at the very best facilities the Association can offer, have access to great coaching, are provided dedicatedsupport whilst being underpinned by our development program structure.” Kiely said.

In addition to the Girls SAP program, SGFA will continue to offer its Association Youth League (AYL) program for boys aged 13 to 16 years, whilst its representative Club, St George City, will field teams in the NPL2 Mens, NPL 1 Youth and SAP Boys.

Further details of the program and trial dates will be published in the coming weeks.
