Dannielle Finlay-Jones was a valued and cherished member of the Football St George community. She had a decades long involvement at Ramsgate RSL FC as a dedicated participant and volunteer. She came from a loving family, was a respected educator, and had a wide circle of friends.
In December 2022, Dannielle’s life was cruelly taken away in a horrific and reprehensible act of violence. She was 31.
Although an individual was charged with her murder, the individual’s death in custody before a trial frustrated the search for answers and for justice under the law. This Monday, three and a half years after her life was taken, the NSW Coroner’s Court will hear an inquest into the circumstances of Dannielle’s death.
Football St George extends our heartfelt condolences to Dannielle’s family, particularly her mother Jacky who is also a life member of Football St George, her brother Blake, and all other affected members of the Football St George community. We hope the inquest will provide answers and healing for the Finlay-Jones family, and an opportunity to introduce reforms to make the world a safer place for women.
As a mark of respect to Dannielle’s memory and her family, all senior matches in Football St George this weekend will observe a moment of silence before kick-off.
