Peakhurst Park 5 Synthetic Sports Field

St George FA have now formally tabled its submission to Georges River Council for Peakhurst Park field 5 to be converted to a synthetic field.

General Manager Craig Kiely and Director Tony Karahalias provide the document and submission in a meeting with new Mayor Kevin Greene, General Manager Gail Connolly, Asset & Infrastructure Director Laurie O’Connor and Luke Coleman last Thursday 18 October.

The formal submission was in response to Georges River Council’s confirmation in June of $500,000 in seed funding for the project as part of its 2017/18 capital works program. The seed funding required the Association to meet certain criteria, which will now include a significant financial contribution to the project from the St George Football Association.

This submission of the plan coincided with a motion put forward at the Georges River Council meeting on Monday 23 October supporting the construction of a synthetic pitch at Peakhurst Park field 5. The motion can be viewed here and SGFA General Manager, Craig Kiely spoke on behalf of the St George Football community supporting the motion –  the transcript of the address is below.

My name is Craig Kiely and I am the General Manager of the St George Football Association.

I am here tonight on behalf of the St George FA Board of Directors, our 23 member Clubs and the 10,000 active participants who play the world game, locally here is St George.

St George FA full support the motion put forward tonight for the construction of a synthetic sports field at Peakhurst Park Field 5. This motion coincides with the St George FA formal submission of its business plan to Council for the project, which was presented last week.

As a very long established, major sport, we are the body that represents a large, diverse and passionate community. A community that does not currently have access to a synthetic sports field in the Georges River Council LGA.

We have made great strides with Georges River Council in regards to facilities over the past 18 months and this has been demonstrated by their commitment of 500,000 seed funding for the project. The delivery of a synthetic field will assist Georges River Council to meet the increased demands for additional sporting field capacity. It will allow increased usage across peak and non-peak periods for not only football users, but other community groups including schools.

This will support the achievement of improved social, health, economic and environment benefits for the community.

The delivery of a synthetic field at Peakhurst Park Field 5 together with the planned Penshurst Park sporting hub will ensure that the GRC community will have access to some of the best local sporting facilities in the state. We know that this project will make a significant and long lasting contribution to football and the local Georges River Council community.

Once again, St George FA fully support the motion put forward tonight.
