In a thrilling final at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday, the Hurstville City Minotaurs (O45 Men) clinched the 2025 Football NSW Champions of Champions title by edging Wakehurst FC 4–3. It is a remarkable achievement, marking the Minotaurs’ record-breaking sixth crown at this prestigious competition, a feat no other club in this age group has matched.

From the first whistle, the Minotaurs set a tone of belief and purpose. Their experienced squad moved the ball with precision and composure, responding to every challenge that Wakehurst mounted. Wakehurst pressed hard and countered with pace, but the Minotaurs’ resilience and seasoned campaign-knowhow shone through when it mattered most. As the match swung back and forth, the closing stages belonged to the Minotaurs, who found the extra gear to deliver that decisive fourth goal and seal the win.

Club President Peter Sarikakis, a revered Football St George life member, summed up the moment: “So the Mighty Minotaurs win another Champions of Champions. It’s our 6th cup which is a record in FNSW. I am so proud of all my boys! We dedicate this big win to FSG and Georges River Council.” The words capture more than a single moment of glory, they reflect a legacy built over years of service, community, and football excellence.

Founded in 1985 under the leadership of Sarikakis, the Minotaurs have long been a stalwart of the St George region’s football scene. From juniors through to veterans, the club has fostered talent, community spirit and success. Their recent record in the Champions of Champions competition underlines that pedigree: past triumphs in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 laid the groundwork for this latest achievement.

The Champions of Champions tournament itself brings together association champions from across New South Wales, determining the very best clubs in each age bracket. To win it once is an accomplishment; to win it six times at O45 level is to define a dynasty.

In recognising the broader significance, Figurehead Gary Lockwood of Football St George said the win exemplifies all that the region stands for, performance, unity, pride. It’s more than a trophy, it’s the manifestation of years of dedication from players, coaches, administrators and supporters alike.

For the Minotaurs, this isn’t just about adding another medal to the cabinet. It’s about identity: St George’s flag flying high, the community rallying behind its club, and a group of men who played with heart, experience and unwavering belief. Sunday’s 4–3 result will be remembered not just as a win, but as a statement: this club is built for the big occasion. They didn’t just win; they reinforced their standing as one of the most accomplished O45 sides in NSW.

Congratulations to the Hurstville City Minotaurs, the 2025 O45 Champions of Champions. You’ve created a legacy, and it shines brighter than ever.
