The 2025 season of the Girls Junior Development League (GJDL) has marked another year of progress for Football St George, reinforcing the program’s role as a key development pathway for young female footballers in the region.
The GJDL, delivered under the Football NSW Junior Development League structure, provides a clear and professionally run opportunity for players to develop their skills in an environment that underpins the National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s and Men’s competitions. Football St George fields teams across the league, giving local players access to additional training and competition beyond their grassroots club commitments. The program is delivered on a part-time basis, with participants remaining registered to their local FSG clubs while undertaking a weekly GJDL training session and representing Football St George in competition every second weekend. Eligibility is limited to players within the Metro East State Titles boundaries, covering St George, Football Canterbury and the Eastern Suburbs Football Association, ensuring a clear and structured pathway for the region’s football community.
The 2025 season demonstrated the value of this model, with players not only improving their technical and tactical skills but also gaining valuable experience in a representative setting. A strong commitment from players and parents contributed to a positive culture that supported both individual development and collective performance. Clear communication aligned expectations and a focus on player growth were central to the year’s success, with several participants trialing for higher-level programs and others achieving success with their association clubs.
Coaches and staff were instrumental in providing stability and guidance throughout the year. Their dedication ensured that training environments were well organised and match days conducted with professionalism, reflecting the standards Football St George sets for its development pathways. Reflecting on the program, one coach noted the importance of creating an inclusive environment where players could build friendships, express themselves and focus on their footballing fundamentals.
Technical Director Frank Mrvcic also praised the efforts of players, coaches and families, acknowledging the pride with which the squads represented Football St George. “It was a pleasure every Wednesday night to be at training and see the development of the young girls, which showed on game days as well. Regardless of results, the girls represented FSG with pride and great sportsmanship towards their opposition. I’d like to thank our coaches, managers, supportive parents, and the Board of FSG for their commitment to the program.”
As the 2025 season concludes, Football St George acknowledges the significant contributions of its players, coaches, managers, and families who have made the Girls Junior Development League such a success. The program continues to provide a vital stepping stone for aspiring footballers, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and experiences that will support their journey in the game.
