On Monday evening, 31 March, the all-weather field at Peakhurst Park came alive with energy, ideas, and inspiration as over 30 local coaches gathered for the Football St George and Football NSW Grassroots Coaching Festival.
The event, delivered in collaboration with Football NSW, brought together community coaches to experience and engage with best-practice training sessions designed to elevate grassroots coaching across the region.
The festival showcased a dynamic mix of session types, including practices from the MiniRoos and Foundation of Football coaching courses. These sessions highlighted how to build strong foundations for young players in the earliest stages of their football journey.
In addition, more advanced Youth development sessions were delivered by experienced local coaches, offering attendees insight into age-appropriate methods that nurture skill progression and game understanding.
The festival wasn’t just about observing—it was about sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and strengthening the local coaching network. Coaches had the opportunity to interact directly with presenters, ask questions, and reflect on how to adapt the sessions to their own team environments.
For the 30+ coaches in attendance, the benefits were clear. The night offered not only a hands-on learning experience but also the chance to align their coaching approach with national frameworks and local philosophies.
It reinforced the importance of engaging players through fun, inclusive, and developmental sessions—and the role of coaches in shaping positive football experiences from the grassroots up.
