Football St George (FSG) is set to make its mark at the 2025 Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA) Club Championship in Brisbane, kicking off on Friday 14 March. With a squad boasting national team experience and international star power, the team is determined to compete at the highest level in this prestigious tournament.
Leading the charge are Australian National Team players Abdulah Karim and Chris Turnbull, both renowned for their tactical intelligence and ability to perform under pressure. They are joined by experienced powerchair footballers Craig Kilby and Chris Kessaris, whose leadership and skill provide the backbone of the team. Adding to the excitement, FSG has secured English international Brad Bates as their marquee player.
Bates, one of the most decorated powerchair footballers in the world, brings an incredible pedigree to the squad. His achievements include a Champions League Winners Medal, a European Championship title, five Premier League titles, and the prestigious Premier League top scorer award. Notably, he has already conquered the Australian Club Championship once before, finishing as both top scorer and top assist provider. His presence is expected to elevate the team’s attacking firepower and inspire his teammates on and off the court.
“This is a huge moment for FSG,” said Technical Director Brian Dene. “We have built a squad that blends experience, national-level talent, and international expertise. The addition of Brad Bates is a testament to our ambition, and we are ready to compete against the best clubs in the country.”
The APFA Club Championship brings together Australia’s top powerchair football teams, with each match testing skill, strategy, and resilience. FSG has been rigorously preparing for this challenge, with structured training sessions focusing on ball control, tactical formations, and set plays designed to capitalize on their attacking strengths.
