On Saturday 8th March 2025, Peakhurst United Football Club hosted their annual Women in Football Pink Ribbon Gala Day to help raise money for breast and gynaecological cancer research.

This was the 8th year of hosting the ‘Women in Football Pink Ribbon Gala Day’ and each year it continues to be a success. The event has raised over $60,000 for research into and prevention of women’s cancers.

Leanne Smith, last year’s Football St George (FSG) Gold Medal Recipient and head organiser of the event had this to say about the day “Everyone has been affected by cancer in some way, and this is just our small way of making a difference. So many people contributed to and supported our event from the local businesses who donated prizes, the food trucks, the 24 teams that participated. The continued support of everyone involved is what helps to make our Gala Day a huge success”

FSG Chairperson Irene Hatzipetros continued “Football St George is incredibly proud to support the annual Women in Football Pink Ribbon Gala Day, hosted by Peakhurst United FC. This event highlights the power of football to unite our community in support of an important cause, raising vital funds for the Cancer Council. The money raised will help fund world-class research into women’s cancers, cancer prevention and advocacy programs, and essential support services for those affected at every stage of their journey.

Peakhurst United FC was especially motivated to hold this event as several of its players have had family members diagnosed with breast cancer. Their dedication and the incredible support from our football family made this a truly meaningful day.

A huge thank you to Peakhurst United FC for their leadership, the St George Football Referees Association for officiating, and Pigeon Football for their support and providing the beautifully made match balls. The generosity and passion displayed by all involved show the true spirit of our game, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition in the years ahead.”

Lastly, thank you to everyone who came down to show your support for a great cause, see you all next year for the 9th edition of the Women in Football Pink Ribbon Gala Day!
