Football St George is proud to announce the successful hosting of its Council Candidates Forum on 10 September 2024.

The event saw strong participation from Football St George member clubs and Georges River Council candidates, providing a vital platform to discuss the future of football and sports infrastructure in the region.

Football St George and its member clubs were delighted by the support shown by various council candidates, many of whom signed the Football St George Pledge, committing to the ongoing development and sustainability of football in our community. Notably, the pledge was signed by the following candidates:

  • Australian Labor Party candidates: Ashvini Ambihaipahar and Kathryn Landsberry
  • Liberal Party candidates: Nancy Liu and Sam Stratikopoulos
  • Georges River Residents and Ratepayers Party candidate: Heidi Breeze

Their commitment signatures signify a shared vision of ensuring that local grassroots football clubs and players have access to the necessary resources and facilities to continue thriving in the Georges River area.

In addition to the Football St George pledges from individual candidates, Football St George also commends the proactive approach of the Georges River Residents and Ratepayers Party, who presented their own pledge to Football St George and its member clubs.

The commitment from the candidates in attendance underscores the importance of collaboration between local government and community organisations in addressing the unique needs of football in our region.

Chairperson of Football St George, Irene Hatzipetros, said:

“For the past 100 years, Football St George has been a pillar of the community in the St George Region, providing an essential service to thousands of players, families, and volunteers. We rely on successful collaboration with the council to continue delivering this service. The support and commitment shown by the candidates who signed our pledge highlights the importance of ensuring that football remains accessible and well-supported. We look forward to working closely with local representatives to secure the future of our clubs and community.”

Football St George extends its gratitude to all candidates, club representatives, and community members who attended this important forum. Together, we are advocating for a stronger future for football within the Georges River Council community.
