Football St George (FSG) is pleased to announce the coaches invited to participate in the  inaugural Female Coach Mentor Program (FCMP).

The program, emanating from the Female Football Committee is designed to support the ongoing development of female coaches. The 21 invited coaches will attend the upcoming Workshop – Why and Vision, MiniRoos & Skills Training Courses, Football St George Girls SAP Training Observations & Session Design Workshop.

Future and Young Matildas Head Coach Leah Blayney was a special guest on the night of the first workshop which included a 45-minute Q & A. Coaches in the group will also have an opportunity to attend a communication/leadership workshop and training session at the Future Matildas training base led by Leah.

In announcing the invited coaches for 2022, Football St George Community Football Technical Director, Brian Dene gave recognition to the special attributes bought to the game by the coaches, ‘The Program has been introduced to encourage and support more female coaches to progress along their pathway. By providing the FCMP, it is hoped that we can make it more achievable for women and girls to obtain community and advanced coaching qualifications.

One of the coaches, Zainab Jaber form Banksia Tigers FC spoke about her excitement about the program, “As someone who is extremely passionate about Football, one of the key reasons I took up coaching was to have the opportunity to transfer my knowledge of the game to other players and provide a team environment where players are learning and having fun.

At Banksia Tigers FC many of our female teams are led by female coaches, so having Football St George run the female coach mentor program is a great initiative which will provide female coaches with the required training to further upskill themselves in the coaching field”

Another coach, Janice Fernandes from Ramsgate RSL FC said, “As a current player myself I love having the ability to share and guide my girls on the field each week from what I learn from my own coach and my experience.

This is not just important for myself or my club but for the future of football in general. We will enable young kids to not just learn about the game but embrace new skills, build confidence, and ultimately have fun whether they continue to play or coach in future”.
