Football St George (FSG) have announced a preliminary update on competitions given the current COVID-19 restrictions that are in place across various areas of New South Wales.

The current NSW Government stay at home Public Order is in place until 11:59pm, Friday 9 July 2021. All football activities are currently suspended, including all games, training and other football activities.

Note: Any football activity which takes place during this period is not sanctioned by Football NSW and, therefore, the Personal Accident insurance cover that is provided as part of a player’s registration may not apply.

At this stage there is no clear understanding as to whether this may be extended as we await further advice and information from the NSW Government.

Regardless of the public health order update scheduled for Friday, 9 July, Competitions administered by Football St George will not proceed this coming weekend. This will include no trial matches if the suspension on Football activities is lifted.

If restrictions are eased and football activties are able to resume, FSG will recommence the 2021 season on the weekend of 16-18 July 2021. The firm focus will be on returning to the football pitch in the safest possible manner and to afford Clubs and players sufficient time to plan and prepare accordingly.

Our guiding principle, as it was in 2020, is to optimise playing time for all participants and to this end, our priority is to allow for 2 full rounds of football for our 10 and 8 team competitions and 3 full rounds for our 6 team competitions.

On the basis we commence as planned and we do not lose further weekends, competitions that will have Finals Series will revert to a 2-week format like the 2020 season.

Week 1: (A) 1 v 4, (B) 2 v 3

Week 2: Winner A vs Winner B

Whilst we are presented with some uncertainty, it is important for FSG to provide a clear plan for our members and participants to work towards.

Proposed Recommencement: 16-18 July 2021

Key Considerations/Notes:

  • FSG’s current Winter Permits for Georges River conclude the last weekend of August.
  • FSG’s current Winter Permit for Bayside Council ends 5 September 2021.
  • There are still 13 games that require rescheduling and 15 catch up games already scheduled.
  • FSG still has several teams (8) still participating in the Football NSW State Cup competition. At this stage there is no update from Football NSW regarding this competition.
  • Football NSW Champion of Champions is due to commence 18/19 September 2021.
  • Summer football program is due to kick off the week commencing 27 September 2021.
