The inaugural SGFA Chairman’s Cup was staged on Sunday 16 September 2018 at Ador Avenue with  29 teams competing in a fun and social 6-a-side football tournament, with all funds raised going towards for the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

The charity day was staged in honour of former Chairman, the late Sok Mallios, and was the brainchild of his daughters Priscilla and Stephanie that will become an annual event on the SGFA calendar.

Everyone who participated in the day did so in the right spirit and whilst winning wasn’t the ultimate reason for participating in the day, congratulations is extended to the 2 inaugural team winners of the Chairman’s Cup age groups:

  • All Age Mixed – Black Caviar AA
  • Over 45s  – The Minotaurs O45

It was a fantastic occasion, with wonderful weather and we thank everyone who joined in for the day.

Confirmation of the total amount of funds raised in the coming days following the completion of final collections of donations.

Finally, Priscilla and Stephanie Mallios have provided the below message of thanks on behalf of the The Mallios family.

On behalf of the Mallios Family, we would like to express how truly grateful we are to everyone who participated in and came down to support The Chairman’s Cup in memory of Sok.

The day couldn’t have happened without the help and committment of Craig Kiely, Angelo, Ivan, Ali, Tony, John and Joanna Nedelkovski (The SGFA Board). We also want to thank the amazing referees who gave up their time to come down and make sure the games were played fairly, like Sok would have wanted.

A massive thankyou to Macchina Eatery for their amazing food services and to the DJ George ‘Dj-mavros’ Limnatites for keeping the positive vibes flowing all day.

The money raised (with final count coming soon) will be donated to the Kinghorn Cancer Centre where Sok received much of his treatment and is supported by the Garvan Institute.

To all the clubs and players without you the day couldn’t have happened and we thank you for playing fairly and enthusiastically to honour Sok. Congratulations to the winners Black Caviar AA and The Minotaurs O45!!

The day was made even more special by being able to play on Ador Ave which was Sok’s vision for football in the St George area.

Get your boots ready for next year!

Sincerely The Mallios Family xxx
