Its an exciting time for football in St George with the local competition Grand Finals kicking off this weekend.

Games will be scheduled at Memorial Park, Scarborough 7 and for the first time UOW Jubilee Oval in Kogarah. The full weekend fixtures can be accessed HERE.

St George Football Association (SGFA) has worked closely with Georges River Council (GRC) in providing access to the regions premier stadium in an exciting and historic opportunity for local participants.

General Manager of the St George Football Association, Craig Kiely, said the Association is thrilled to have access to the stadium for the first time to host their local competition grand finals.

“We appreciate the tremendous support provided by Georges River Council for making this a reality,” he said.
“Clubs, players, coaches and referees are excited about the opportunity to play football at such an iconic local venue and that the experience will provide lifelong memories for all involved.”

“We will also have involvement from our Special Needs program, St George Warriors,” he added.

The Association is hopeful that the success from this year will result in the local grand finals at Jubilee becoming an annual tradition for local football, Mr Kiely added.

Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner said Council resumed management of this premier venue in February 2017.

“On resuming management of the Stadium, Council took the opportunity to make UOW Jubilee Oval more accessible to other sporting clubs and codes,” he said.

“By opening up the Oval, Council can ensure greater use of the venue and establish a more vibrant sporting precinct in the local area, while also improving its long-term commercial viability.”

“I am pleased to see the St George Football Association has expressed such a keen interest in using the venue,” he added.

On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August the stadium will host a number of St George Football Association teams to play their finals.

The following weekend will then see the remaining Grand Finals played, including SGFA men and women Premier League teams, which will wrap up the 2017 winter season.
