The Rockdale City Suns FC was originally started in 1969 by the Macedonian immigrant community of Rockdale as a small social Club.

During the early 1980s, the club acquired a State League licence and has, ever since, operated as a Club for all, fielding teams ranging from U6s to O45s in the St George Football Association competitions, as well as SAP, NPL1 Youth and NPL1 Seniors in the elite Football NSW state based competitions.

From humble beginnings and through the hard work of all volunteers past and present, the Club has grown to be the biggest and most recognised Club in the St George area. With the Ilinden Sports Centre being home to the SAP and NPL teams, the Rockdale City Suns FC Juniors play and train out of Bicentennial Park East where we have self-funded and recently installed a small tiered grandstand, player dugouts and extended the covered canteen area, as well as lighting for all of our training pitches, with more developments in the pipeline.

The Rockdale City Suns FC have enjoyed tremendous growth over the past 7 years. With the Clubs Juniors in dire straits fielding only 6 teams, we have grown to more than 450 players registered in the Juniors as well as almost 200 in our SAP and NPL programs. With additional training field space looked at for next season and the recent appointment of a qualified and experienced Juniors Technical Director, we hope to increase numbers and playing opportunities even further.

In 2013, the Rockdale City Suns FC fielded our first ever Women’s team that was coached by Matildas legend, Sarah Walsh. In 2014, our U18s team went through the season undefeated and won the SGFA award for best A-Grade team. Many members of that team now play in the women’s Football NSW NPL competitions. The women’s program now has 3 teams and will look to expand in future years.

Recent Rockdale City Council announcements will see the Ilinden Sports Centre become the first ground in the St George Area to install a Synthetic Pitch. With the ground already hosting St George Football Association finals and catch up matches where weather permits, the installation of a synthetic pitch will see the ground host many more matches than it currently does, especially in wet-weather, as well as allowing the Rockdale City Suns FC Juniors to continue to grow.
