BOARD STATEMENT – 2021 WINTER SEASON

Dear Football St George Community,

First and foremost, we hope you are all well during these uncertain and somewhat difficult times.

We write to provide an update to our earlier communiques.

As you are undoubtedly aware, on Wednesday 28 July 2021, the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that NSW restrictions will continue until at least 12.01am on Saturday 28 August 2021. There is no positive news to be drawn from the latest NSW Government announcement.

We have a very serious health and social issue now affecting hundreds of thousands of Sydney residents who find themselves in lockdown due to the ongoing impacts of COVID and the underlying risks to the wider community.

Following the NSW Government announcement, the Football St George (“FSG”), Board, CEO, COVID Sub-committee, and Competition Secretary met via zoom conferencing on Thursday, 29 July 2021 to review recent developments.  Given the NSW Government announcement, it would be fair to say that we must accept the reality of not being able to resume the 2021 Winter Competition.

Accordingly, the Board has unanimously agreed that the winter competition will not resume and that in fairness to our clubs, administrators, volunteers and especially the players that this decision be made and communicated without delay. This decision was also supported by the FSG COVID Sub-Committee representatives.

We believe that many of you will feel a sense of relief with our decision, the uncertainty is at an end.

As we await further feedback from our FSG Clubs, more information will be provided in due course.
