Banksia have taken out the St George Football Association women’s premier league grand final, downing Dolls Point 2-1 at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Sunday.
Dolls Point went into the clash as favourites after finishing the regular season as premiers but the Tigers, who also downed Dolls Point in the major semi-final, sprung another upset to be crowned champions.
In the men’s premier league grand final, Connells Point continued their fine finals run to score a 1-0 win over Arncliffe Aurora on Saturday night.
Connells Point had thrashed premiers Scots FC 3-0 to reach the final and completed their title-winning season with victory over Arncliffe.
Arncliffe downed Sans Souci 4-0 in the reserve grade decider.
St George FA held its finals series at the iconic Kogarah ground for the first time this season, with more than 500 players gracing the hallowed turf for 25 grand finals.
The association gained access to Jubilee Oval after Georges River Council resumed management of the venue from the St George Illawarra Dragons NRL club in February.
The association was hopeful a successful fortnight of grand finals would see local football finals become an annual tradition at Jubilee Oval, widely regarded as the best sporting facility in the district.
